Slipknot is a metal band in which electronics (samples, scratches, music effects etc.) play a really important role. Slipknot experiments with different sounds, and that makes the band unique and different from other metal bands. We can hear many samples and other weird sounds in various Slipknot longs, in example: Vermilion, 724617000027, (515) or Sulfur.

Band members responsible for the electronic sounds are: #5 Craig “133″ Jones (samples/keyboards) and turntablist #0 Sid Wilson (also known as DJ Starscream).
Both band members combine different drum’n'bass hip-hop breakbeats & scratches (Eyeless, No Life), distorted sound effects (742617000027, (515), .execute.), movie samples (“Here comes the pain” (SIC), “I haven’t got time for the living” – Diluted) as well as other samples and effects, which can be heard in soings like Get This, ‘Til We Die, I Am Hated and Danger, Keep Away (full length.)

#0 – Sid Wilson

Sid has been a DJ since 1992. He’s also known as DJ Starscream. DJ Starscream made his major public debut in 1994 with Sound Proof Coalition, a DJ crew based out of Des Moines, Iowa. Playing shows on the local scene as well as across the Midwest and U.S., DJ Starscream and the S.P.C. were, and continue to be major innovators in the DJ world
Wilson combines styles of hip-hop beats with crunchy scratches. He’s an important piece in the band (just like all the other members.) He has been developing several styles of new music over the years from the metal mayhem of Slipknot, turntablist jungle mash ups, to classical. This guy tries to dip his hands into every genre he can flip.

#5 – Craig ’133′ Jones

Craig Jones was a guitarist before he made place for Mick Thomson and started sampling. Craig is responsible for various sound effects which can be heard in Slipkot’s songs. He created all intro songs on Slipknot albums (742617000027, (515), .execute.) He also adds different samples/sound effects on other album tracks. We can hear Craig and his samples on many songs, in example: (SIC), Vermilion, Cirlce, ‘Til We Die, I am Hated and many more! Craig’s a really talented musician and, just as every other band member, is an important piece in Slipknot.

Craig (#5) is one tough customer. As the man who creates digital media, sequences and samples to meet the heavy demands of his band Slipknot, he is faced with no easy task.

“I used Pro Audio for years on the road and in the studio, so the move to SONAR was inevitable. I needed a digital multitrack studio that could stand up to the abuse,” said Craig.” and SONAR is so powerful that its possibilities are frightening.”

Craig turned Slipknot DJ Sid (#0), guitarist James (#4), and percussionist Clown (#6) onto SONAR, and they have been working on new songs while on the road.

“We all have SONAR loaded on our laptops,” said Craig. “It makes it real easy to work on ideas when we get back to our hotel. I’m also getting a lot of use out of the VSampler. I like being able to trigger and manipulate a wide variety of samples right on my laptop.

“We also have a tour case with a rack mounted PC, mic preamps, a mixer, reference monitors, and some other gear. Before the shows we wheel the case into our dressing room and the whole band gets involved with the tracking in SONAR.”Soucre: Cakewalk
